II Corinthians 3:17
"...and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty."
Liberty Baptist Church began in 1979 under the corporation of laws of the State of Pennsylvania. The inception came as Pastor Alvin O. Berkley answered the call to preach the Gospel.
Upon examining some of the churches in the area, Pastor Berkley felt there was a need for a Bible-centered church where the Word of God would be preached, as well as lived, in the lives of its leaders. After waiting and hoping for God to send someone, he felt God's call on his own life.
Pastor Berkley started out with a home Bible study with a few members from his home church in Wilkins Township. Trying to reach more people from his own neighborhood, he began recruiting people from the Braddock area with the hope that they would be interested in attending an area Bible study -- only a few came.
With the backing of the Pastor of Faith Bible Baptist Church, the church started with eight charter members at 816 Braddock Avenue in Braddock, PA.
In September 2000, Liberty Baptist Church moved to a new location at 601 Fourth Street, Braddock, PA. Since the move, the Church has continued to prosper numerically and spiritually. The Church has added a lift to make it wheelchair accessible. We have two church vans for people who need to be picked up for Sunday morning service and other events, like the church picnic or a fun trip to Sight and Sound Theatre in Lancaster, PA. We have Bible classes for all ages. Bible preaching and teaching remains the focal point of the ministry. We are still considering land or property where we can build a new facility.
Our church theme verse is II Corinthians 3:17
